Does anyone have a school loan and can tell me the name of the bank or company and what you like/don't like about them?

Dh has part of his loans consolidated so we got a lower interest rate. But they keep messing things up and trying to tell us we have to start paying even though he is still in school. I want to get rid of them, even if it means a higher interest rate.

Thanks for the help.

did the fact that you consolidated have something to do with them demanding payment now? When we had school loans nothing was payable until after graduation. I believe, the bank was Chase.
Hope you can clear this up soon.

All federal students loans in NH are administered under a non-profit foundation: NH Higher Education Foundation. I consolidated my loans when I finished my bachelor's degree, to take advantage of a lower interest rate. When I started my graduate degree I only had to file a deferral paper once. The consolidated loans are now on hold until I graduate/stop school for more than 6 months. Because I purposely *only* took out subsidized loans, I don't have to pay interest, either.

I remember a friend of mine when an undergraduate had to file deferral paperwork every semester. It was a PITA for him. Perhaps it varies by bank, or times have changed? Perhaps your dh just has to file paperwork every semester, which would be easy enough to do?

We consolidated 2 years ago and it is supposed to be deferred until graduation. But DH took this semester off, he talked to them in Jan about it and they said all was ok. DH called today just to make sure and it's not ok. In fact they said we were suppsed to start making payments in Dec, we never got a bill.

It's just been one hassle after another with them. I'm done arguing with them.

We found that the original bank/lender, especially of student loans doesn't really matter in the end, because they are usually bought up by larger companies. Mine were bought by one company, transferred again, and are currently held by Sallie Mae. We didn't have a choice in the transfer, we were simply "notified."

to Sallie Mae, too. Sorry you're having this trouble. You need to have this straightened out ASAP. Find all paperwork and deferral forms. Fees, etc will snowball if you don't get it stopped now.
Do you know anyone at a bank? Anyone who can help you look into it? Anyone in the financial aid office at the school? Sometimes things get so complicated you may need more help to get it fixed.
Blessings!

We don't know anyone at a bank that handles school loans. We've never even been to the campus of the school he is attending, which I now realize is part of the problem, we should have sat down with someone face to face.

I've narrowed it down to three options. Use our home equity line, transfer to either Wells Fargo or Sallie Mae. I hate this stuff.

I like DSS's tuition in France better. $1000 per year. We pay in full.
