was fabulous! Many derivations from the book -- but was still awesome! The actors were perfect for the roles. Cathy & Heathcliff had serious chemistry. Lots of kissy-kissy :)
I can't wait for Part 2 tomorrow night.

Anyone else watch?

Wuthering Heights was the one book I simply loathed in high school, so I was wondering how I would like the PBS production. It was fabulous! Now I may have to revisit the book and see if my opinion has changed.

My dd thinks the actor for Heathcliff should have been Snape in the Harry Potter movies. : )

I thought the role of Heathcliff was wonderful.

Why do they always put in the scene with Heathcliff digging up Catherine's grave?

Was Hindley Earnshaw played by the same guy as Mr Guppy in Bleak House?

I too am looking forward to the second episode. Those who missed the first can watch it online at the Masterpiece Theatre website (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/masterpiece/wutheringheights/watch.html) until February 1. Or you can revisit your favorite parts while waiting for tomorrow evening...

Just another thought about it.

I like how they used a younger actress to portray Catherine. All of the adaptations before now have used older actress. Catherine was only 15 when Heathcliff ran away and 18 when she died. I think it helps to remember that Catherine is only a child when all this takes place and that might help explain a lot of her actions.

Yes, That is Tom Hardy. When he first walked on as the elder Heathcliff, my dd and I were trying to figure out where we had seen him. I eventually figured it out because of those crooked front teeth! He was Elizabeth's lover in Elizabeth.

Why do they always put in the scene with Heathcliff digging up Catherine's grave?

I know -- And with an actual body of the beautiful Cathy!Freaky & I love it!

Was Hindley Earnshaw played by the same guy as Mr Guppy in Bleak House?

I have Bleak House in my Netflix queue. Coming soon :) I love those Brits!

Part 2 starts in 25 min...

I just finished Wuthering Heights, and was totally unimpressed. That's the way I remembered it from high school, but I was hoping to get more from it this time around--to really understand why this is the "great English novel." Sigh. It does make me feel like a literary loser, not to like this book. But maybe we'll try to see the movie. And Mrs. Darcy's point about Cathy's and Heathcliff's ages is well taken. Perhaps the movie will help me "see" it all in a new light?

I loved the book. I was sucked in from moment one. Maybe it's because my life is so unlike theirs. I enjoyed the perspective of the new renter -- and also from Nelly. The flashbacks are a perfect device for this story.

Yes, Cathy was so young to experience such tragedy. Her dad dies. She's in-love/lust w/ her gypsy pseudo-brother. Bio brother despises the only one in life she can relate to. When she tells Nelly "I am Heathcliff!" -- well that just puts me over the edge. I love this creepy tale!!

Those Bronte sisters were amazing writers.

I dvr'ed Part 2 last night. Can't wait to watch.

ETA: Here's a thread from last summer (http://67.202.21.157/forums/showthread.php?t=41109&highlight=wuthering+heights) where we discussed the book.
