BJU Earth& Space Science and BJU Physical Science with
Apologia Physical Science.

I feel like eventually (assuming we carry on) we will move into BJU DVDs for high school science. I am trying to decide when to do that. Seems like Apologia physical covers earth & space within their physical. An entire year of Earth and Space sounds like a LOT, but I have also heard this is a good course. The $$$ of going the BJU route now is a bit intimidating. But, then I worry about how could Apologia cover as much in its one-year physical science book as BJU covers in its two-year earth/space and physical science sequence.

You know, I just don't like picking science curriculum.

I am planning on using the BJU Physical Science. My son used the BJU Life Science this year, and I felt that it was a challenging and interesting curriculum and my son is enjoying it. I have read that Apologia doesn't get into the depth that BJU does. In fact it is my understanding that you would have to do Apologia Biology and Adv. Biology to cover the material in BJU Biology. This is also my understanding for Chemistry and Physics.

To get an idea about Apologia Physical Science vs. BJU, try these links:

Then click on the table of contents and sample links.

Also, you could go to the Bob Jones site and the Apologia site, and see if they have additional chapters you could look at.

Hope this helps.

I do think we will go with BJU. I understand what you are saying. We are actually doing Apologia Biology this year, and I am treating it as a life science course. My ds is really having no problems, and we are through the "hardest" parts now. In comparing the BJU Life Science Text and Apologia Biology, I saw very few differences, except that Apologia had more "cellular" info and genetics info, and BJU Life science covered some Anatomy that Apologia did not.

This is why I am in a weird place: ds will have already "done" Apologia Bio. I think next year will be the time to switch to BJU to get used to their system and DVDs.

Thanks for you insights.

So are you just skipping Space & Earth Science with BJU? I am wanting to do this to ease into the DVD usage, since the Space & Earth segments are only 30 minutes whereas the Physical Science segments are 45! That's a LOT of DVD watching each day.
