I'm trying to decide between:

1) Planning out a very detailed curriculum for next year OR
2) Taking some things "by ear" (such as readers for ds, supplemental readings for history, science, read-alouds, etc.) I'd still have math, lang. arts, etc. planned.

My question to you all is, do you record EVERY book that you or your dc reads that falls under "schoolwork"? Why do I feel compelled to do so? Is it necessary? (It is not necessary by our state law to do so...)

Thanks!

I do not record every book the boys read for school. It would be too time-consuming and what would be the point?

I do keep track of how many minutes they read for school, though.

I think when they're in high school I'll keep track of those books, because they may be needed for transcripts or portfolios.

Am I the only one, then? :001_huh: Hmm... Maybe I shouldn't worry about this!

Once your child gets to high school level, I strongly recommend keeping a list of all books read (for pure pleasure and as part of their studies).

I have a senior who has been applying to colleges this year. A number of the colleges have requested reading lists.

I keep a general list on my blog when I do my lesson planning for the week. Though much off dd's free reading would be lit books and I can't catch them all as it is at the rate of 1-2 chapter books a day of free reading. But if I was ever subpoenaed for a list or some such thing I could pull it together easily enough. Also my guess is the library keeps a record of the books we check out and I could put together a list from that easily.
