I finally broke down and bought the Complete Bk. of Challenge Math 5-6 for ds. I really like these books. What would you recommend for afterwards? This book explains things very well...is there anything out there like them for 6th and up? He will probably finish this when 6th grade starts. (He's in 5th)

I can recommend Family Math - the middle school years.

Are you looking for a main curriculum, or thoughtful supplements? Some great, challenging supplements for math-strong kids...:
The Math Olympiad (http://www.moems.org/Books.htm) books are great. Both have a section for the elementary level questions and another for the middle school level questions. I strongly recommend beginning with the elementary level questions, even for a very strong 5th or 6th grader. Some of the problems are *very* tricky.
Have you see Zaccaro's "Challenge Math (http://challengemath.com/)" books? "Challenge Math" and "Real World Algebra" would probably work well for you.
Also, if he hasn't done the Singapore "Challenging Word Problems" and/or "Intensive Practice", they make great supplements to any math program. CWP is all word problems. IP provides a wide mix of challenging problems including word problems.
