View Full Version : ok to skip prayers in prima latina?
My son and I are really enjoying prima latina - but I'm considering dropping the prayers. I'm just not into it and learning the rest of it seems like enough of a challenge to me. Am I missing something - will we miss out if we don't memorize the prayers?

I don't see why you'd HAVE to learn the prayers, but I can tell you that memorizing them has helped my children make connections when they learn new endings - they already have examples of their usage burned into their brains. It also gives them great pleasure to be able to rattle off long passages in Latin. ;)

I think learning the prayers are an important part of Prima. They give the kids some Latin in context, and memorizing the flow of whole sentences really is helpful in the long term.
Duly noted. I was hoping it was just a nice sidebar that wasn't necessary.....

I find listening to them regularly on the CD helps us a lot with memorizing them.

I think learning the prayers helps you get the full benefit of the curriculum, but it certainly isn't necessary. Due to religious conflicts, we have skipped the prayers.
