I'm looking at latin programs to start with my son this coming year, in 4th grade. Has anyone tried Getting Started with Latin by William Linney? It is reasonably priced and has a free download for pronunciation, which is really swaying me. But I want to know if it would work for young children.
I like the look of Minimus Pupil, but the teacher's manual costs a bit too much. For the teacher's manual, student book and CD, it comes out to about $100 at Amazon.com.
Prima Latina is not my style.
I have no background in latin, but learn languages easily. I know French, Italian and Spanish, but never learned latin in school. Any advice?

We are using it this year with my DD8 (3rd grade). I really like the program in that it's fairly easy but she's learning a lot. It's also very inexpensive. Basically it introduces words and once you know a few the child begins translating sentences. It's working incredibly well with FLL3 because it teaches a lot of the same grammar, reinforcing the lessons of both subjects. It's not "exciting", extremely fun" or "colorful", but my daughter and I both enjoy it. We supplement by playing games I make up like "Go Fish" and "Concentration" to help memorize the vocabulary and break up the lessons. It also includes explanations for well known Latin phrases.
I was looking at samples of Latin's Not So Tough today and where my DD is is comparable to Level III in that program. That impressed me. Feel free to PM me if you have any other specific questions I can help answer.

My ds10 is using this. He switched to GSWL when he started having trouble with Latin for Children Primer A (too much stuff to memorize too quickly) which he was doing with his 8yo brother.
What's so nice about this program is that it only presents one bit of new info at a time, and grammar concepts (such as identifying inderect objects) are practiced in English first. The lessons aren't terribly long, and the audio files are helpful. (B uses them to check his work, as the author gives the answers to the exercises in the audio file.) Like the pp said, it's not flashy or "fun" but it is very well done.
