I don't have the workbook, just the text, if I just get the student pages will I be completely lost?

I don't think that the student pages will do you any good without the workbook. The student pages (at least for level 2) are mostly just lined paper with a small picture or sentences to copy printed at the top.

You need the workbook which has the passages in it for you to read aloud to the child. It also has the comprehension questions, and instructions on when to narrate / dictate / etc.
The workbook has one set of the student pages in the back.
If you only have one child then you can use these student pages - perforated to tear out.
If you have more than one child, then you can get just the student pages for your next children.

You do need the teacher part of the workbook in WWE1 as well. That contains all of the reading for the narration days and much more. The nice thing is you can copy the student pages of the workbook for use within your own family! I only have one child, but I double checked this the other day after reading another WWE thread, so thought I'd share that here. :)

Like they said, you would be fine on the copywork days because the workbook has the sentences, though you would miss the work in the TM on capitals, ending punctuation, common vs. proper nouns and such, but on the narration days you just have a blank page. That won't do you much good.

To be honest, I wish there was an option to only get the teacher part without the student pages. I just have my kids do everything on their regular handwriting paper. I print any copywork on their paper for them, and I write their narrations on their paper. I really don't see the need for the student pages, and they take up more than half of the book. I was wondering today how much cheaper the workbook might be without the student pages.

:iagree:
Now I like the student pages, but my problem is that when my student uses the pages at the back then it leaves me with a book that has the back cover about 1" away from the last page of Teacher pages. So when all the student pages are used up it will make for a very odd book. I have had to remove the spine and put it in a binder because of this. It would be nice if it worked more like FLL, where there is a separate TM and student workbook.

Well PHP carries the full workbook and text for $29.95 and the student sheets alone for $11.95. My guess would then be that a stand alone text would cost around $18-20 (probalby closer to $20 because you usually get discounts for ordering combo packages). Though you can buy the whole thing on Amazon for $23.07. Amazon doesn't carry the student worksheets alone.

I just ordered it from Amazon and called it done (it was worth every penny, IMO).
