I am trying to get ds ready for next year. He is in 8th grade and, admittedly, we aren't real on top of things right now. He's a smart one, strong reader (though he doesn't love to read), about ready for Algebra I (and I know he could've done this much earlier if it weren't for all our family issues this year), and picks things up quickly.
The problem is that we just haven't gotten a lot done this past semester. I need to get him on track and ready for hs.
I'm hoping that by seeing what your 9th graders have done, it'll give me an idea of what I need to have him catch up on in the next 7-8 months.

Other "english" type stuff is Word Roots and Editor in Chief (computer version) which she does a couple times a week for about 15-20 min.

My 9th is carping and complaining about the # of different books he's reading and the amount of writing that's required. That said, he's stepping up to the mark, too. Here's his current workload.
SL 200 for history (of the church) and literature (lots of brit lit, some other/fun stuff), plus some reading on world religions thrown in. He's doing all the writing (groan, moan) and dislikes that there are so many *different* books to read for the history. SL's web site has mom-written tests available for download and we are using them. He is also doing R&S 7 and taking the tests from the booklet. Something about % grades really motivates this kid.
Chalkdust Geometry - I grade tests and check progress; that is all.
Artes Latinae 1 - I try to do translations with him and grade weekly quizzes, keep him up to speed.
Prentice-Hall Earth Science w/semester projects and lab; each project requires a powerpoint and presentation to parents
PE - self-directed plus walk/run @ park 3-4 times/week
Ceramics - outside class; I bought a used college textbook and keep trying to get him to make pottery type things instead of ceramic blades and fantasy play pieces. He made earrings for us for Christmas. This is his fine arts credit...slightly delayed by a broken finger that makes it tough to use the wheel.
Also doing teen Community Bible Study and 4-H projects (legos...teen leader, science, fine arts, club web pages, camp counselor, public speaking)
Note on jr. hi stuff: We did Lightning Lit 7 and 8, which were a good but gentle intro to literary terms and basic writing about literature. Abeka grammar did us no good at all...YMMV. He did physical science in 7th and free-reading on biology topics in 8th. He also did Cambridge latin in jr. hi, but we were not diligent enough for it to stick. We had fun with it, though.

Math ~ Finish Life of Fred Beginning Algebra and start Advanced Algebra, New Math Counts from Singapore for extra practice and Teaching Co. Algebra video lecture
Literature ~ Middle Ages lit. based around a portion of Great Books of the Western Literary Tradition (I think that is the title) from Teaching Co. I have a list of 8 or 9 books to read and we will watch the corresponding lecture and I will use some of Teaching the Classics to help with discussion
English ~ Grammar review with Fix It! and IEW for writing
Science ~ Conceptual Physics. I don't have the lab manual so I will be coming up with my own experiments/labs to go with the book.
History ~ World History using the Teaching Co. high school world history lectures and other readings with assignments.
Foreign Language ~ Spanish using La Clase Divertida. The guy who made this program said that all 3 levels would equal 1 year of Spanish (I hope he is right!) so we will complete all 3 this year and then go into something else (looking into Auralog Tell Me More program).
Elective ~ Not sure what to call this yet, but a study based on The Terror of History lectures from, yes you guessed it, Teaching Co. :) We are adding some readings and focusing more on the Inquisition and witch hunts. He is finding the lectures interesting, but the instructor has an accent that is hard for ds to follow.
We will be doing another elective the second half of the year, but haven't decided yet what it will be.
PE ~ Bowling (league and high school team) and jiu-jitsu
I think that covers it. :)
