Is this the same thing as a popcorn stitch? a cluster? something Completely Different? I cannot find directions for making a crochet seed stitch (I've found plenty that explain the knitted seed stitch, though - go figure).

Anyway, I've got a project coming up that is going to need this stitch and I CAN'T FIGURE IT OUT! Can you help me?

TIA!

Seed stitch:

Multiple of 2 chs.

R1 (right side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook, (ch 1, skip next ch, sc in next ch) across.

R2: Ch 1, turn; sc in first sc and in next ch-1 sp, (ch 1, sc in next ch-1 sp) across to last sc, sc in last sc.

R3: Ch 1, turn; sc in first sc, ch 1, (sc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1) across to last 2 sc, skip next sc, sc in last sc.

Repeat Rows 2 and 3 for pattern.

Does that help?

I think so. Thanks! :) I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind. (I'm so bad at this. I should stick to woodworking and hanging drywall.)

So, in row 1, where it says, "skip next ch" - does that mean to skip over where you'd normally make your next stitch and do your next actual sc in the following spot?

Also, in row 2 (and row 3), what is "ch-1 sp"?? I'm guessing "sp" means space... is that the same as skip? Is that an abbreviation for the previous line's "ch 1, skip next ch"?

If so, then I think I've got it. :-) Thanks again, so much.

For row 1, YES. You got it! And you do know that what is inside the parentheses is the stuff you repeat in pattern for the length of whatever it says.

For row 2: When you did R1 and did that Ch 1 skip thing, now you are going to crochet in the Ch1 space that was created by the previous row. Sp does mean space and it was where you chained 1 and did the skip on the row before.

You got it! Any more questions, feel free! I am very happy to help. You can shoot me email if you prefer -- you've still got my address, right?

That pattern is different from the instruction booklet that I have. I got my info from this book I got at WalMart called the Beginner's Guide Crochet Stitches and easy Projects. It is one of those Leisure Arts Little books. It is NOT the same as described in that video.

I'll research some more to see if I can come up with anything else.
