Hi! I've been reading through some of the posts about math curriculum on the board, and would love to get your opinions.

I see a lot of Math U See and Singapore. Both were recommended to me by two different moms. I'm wondering...are these two curriculums that need to be used together? I noticed several on here use both. Is there a specific reason for that?

Also what are some other good math curriculums?

We are currently using R&S, and do not like it. I think maybe the lessons are too short and its sort of boring to us.

Any thoughts?

Thank you!
Blessings,
Christie

We've used MUS since K and are now in Algebra. We supplemented for years with Singapore's Challenging Word Problems because MUS is weak in that area, so they go together well. Other people combine them in other ways. I think that MUS is fine by itself for the average math student, but I have a degree in math and ds picks up math very easily, thus the need/desire for an extra challenge.

Another good math curriculum if Life of Fred (linked in my signature). It's definitely not boring.

I'd jump into Lial's BCM. Depending on teh student, you could do it over one year or two.

whatever you choose, stick with it and don't jump around (this is what we did and now we are playing catchup in 7th grade).

We are using Christian Light after using Rod and Staff for 4 years. We like it much better.

Thank you for the suggestions!! I'll look into those.

I really would love for this to be the LAST change we make in math curriculum for the exact reason Ruth mentioned.

Another quick question...any experience with Saxon?
