I too would like to create a well rounded math program for my ds from the very beginning. I plan on making Saxon our primary program and would like to supplement with a mental/mastery program (as stated in another's recent thread). I cannot decide between Singapore or MUS, as I've heard great things about both.
I initially leaned towards Singapore because it seems that it would easier to implement... like just using their CWPs. However, I cannot deny that MUS interests me very much as well. This may be silly reasoning, but it is my understanding that MUS counts 0-9, instead of 1-10... number charts are 0-99, not 1-100... which drew me to it in the first place.
So... once again I'm hoping you will indulge me and share... why did you choose to supplement with Singapore over MUS or vice versa? Any other program you supplement Saxon with to make a well rounded program?

I am supplementing Saxon with Singapore. We are doing the Saxon lessons 100% and then we do side A of the worksheet and then we do 1 lesson a level down in Singapore.
Saxon 1 with Singapore Early Bird
Saxon 2 with Singapore 1
Saxon 3 wtih Singapore 2
etc.
It is definately math from every direction possible!;)
We started with Singapore, but I had to have scripted lessons, so that's how we go started with this combo.

Do the lessons match up or do you end up just covering everything by the time the year's over?

No, they don't match up. Just a way of review from a different mindset! You don't want to have your dc encounter new concepts in SM. You don't want to have to "teach" anything from SM. You do the teaching in Saxon, then use SM for a review, that's why you want to go down a level!

After further discussion with my dh... we've decided to supplement with Singapore... it just makes more sense for my ds to do it that way! Thanks for the votes and I appreciate your comments, Katherine and Monica... what a huge help!
I foresee us doing it this way too, Katherine. BTW, I love your blog... adding you to my blog list!
Thanks again!

Do you use the U.S. Edition or Standards?

I do like MUS fractions, we'll supplement our Singapore with MUS fractions when we get there. MUS was also good for us starting out, the manipulatives were helpful.
