Do you use what your city uses or another one?
My city uses 94-100 = A, and so forth, but many use 90-100 = A.
How do I know which to use?

You may choose which grading scale you use--my only advice is to stick with one and be consistent. An "A" in English should represent a similar level of mastery as an "A" in Math, History, or Science.

That's what most people around here do. What I did do and I recommend you do it too is to put the scale at the bottom of your child's transcript if you're going to apply to any college's. That way they have some comparison to use.

It's what what used on me in high school in most classes. It really was hard when you had to get a 94 in English to get an A but in math an A was 90. Don't get me started on college classes! (In chemistry, every test was on a different curve so figuring out your own grade was impossible!)
Anyway, it's easy to remember, the kids understand it. I use all the way from when I start with grades.

We use the scale that was pre-set in Edu-track.
93-100 A
85-92 B
75-84 C
74-70 D
It seems about right to me.
(Now, if I could only figure out how to make the program do weighted grading for quizzes, tests, and regular assignments!)

Hate to tell you this but you can't with Edu-Track. They've been tellling me for several years now that they are going to update the software and add graded weighting but they haven't. The last I checked with them was this past fall. I needed weighted scales for my dd. I ended up having to figure it out myself.

Alyce has the right idea. Within our public school district, each school sets up their own grading scale. Thus college admission counselors from our state university don't focus on "grades" as much as the ACT test scores. Pick a scale, record it on the transcript, and stick with it!

Ack! Another blow. I bought Edu-track a couple years ago, before I heard about Homeschool Tracker, and now I'm kicking myself. I was looking through their Help site yesterday, where they answer user questions, and I saw an Incredibly complicated looking description of how to weight grades. I got lost quickly, but it sure looked as if it would be easier just to figure it yourself.
