Please settle a dispute in our family. How do you pronounce "decal"?
I say it with a short "e" and dh says it with a long "e".
Thanks for your help in this!

Where would one who says it with a short e be from?
Does the short-e pronounciation have an accent on the second syllable then? (Just trying to work it out - I've only heard it w/long-e, too.)

Nope. I put the accent on the first syllable.
So, I am totally weird then?

I am from Iowa. My dh says I am just used to saying DeKalb (short e) as in DeKalb County. I'm not too sure. Are there any other Iowans out there who say it like me? :o Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

This one always gets me laughing as more Canadians say "deckle" (sort of like pickle). I find it so funny. :D

Where I'm from, it was DEE-cal, as well as puh-CAHN (pecan) and LOO-ee-ville (Louisville).
Up here in Terre Haute (just 2 hours north, mind you) it's PEE-can and the ever-popular Loo-vuhl. It was almost like learning a new language.

It's long "e."
Unless you're from Canada, and then you'd say it with a short "e."
Put THAt in your touque! :)
