I was recently told that dsd had a GPA of 86.652. How is this possible? I thought GPA was on a 4-point scale, with 4.0 being a A. Maybe this is an actual grade average for all of high school? Can anyone enlighten me?

You can do your GPA on any scale you want to! Most schools seem to use the 4-point scale, but a school could figure GPA on a 143-point scale if it wanted to! :tongue_smilie:

Schools in some states, including NY, record grades and GPA on a 100-point scale.

I've had GPA's done on the 100pt scale a 5-pt scale (with weighted grades for honors/AP), and a 4-pt scale (no weighted grades for honors/AP). One was a GA high school (4-pt), one a FL high school (5-pt) and one an IL high school (100-pt). That was fun...
On a 100-pt scale, usually 90-100 = A, 80-89=B and so-forth (at least for GPA).
Determining A's/B's on a 4-pt or 5-pt scale GPA I've had done on the accelerated grade scale (93-100 is an A) as well as 90-100= A.
The important thing, is that whatever scale you use, that it is clear to the college(s) you are applying to.

We figured grades for individual subjects based on percentages (93-100=A, 86-92=B, etc.), but the GPA is based on the 4pt scale.
