I've just pulled my 5th grader out of school and am starting to home school her today. I am still getting things together to follow the Well-Trained Mind curriculum, and I'm trying to find a Biology book to go with. I can't find the Steven Parker book (How the Body Works), although I haven't started checking used book sites. I was wondering what you all use?

With my 5th grader I'm using Mr. McQuerry's free biology curriculum:

http://www.eequalsmcq.com/Elem%20Life%20Science%20info.htm

It is a lower reading level for my ds (11), but many of the concepts are new to him and he really enjoys the writing style. I add in extra readings and work to beef it up a bit, and am stricter on him knowing all the vocab than I would probably be if he were younger.

My 2nd grader (ds 7) is doing animal studies this year the WTM way for grammar stage.

This is what we are using for our dd (9) and she loves it. The information is written in a fun format and the experiments are quick and easy. Best of all it's free, which is a biggie when you are just starting out in homeschooling!
