Oh no! My dh dropped our pepper grinder on my glass cooktop today and now it has a big crack from front to back. :( Has this ever happened to anyone? Can the cooktop be replaced or will that cost as much as getting a whole new range?

Yes! Ours cracked and had to be replaced. Our warranty covered it, but I saw the bill and it was about $150.

I was thawing out frozen soup in the microwave above the stove. I dropped the frozen soup and it shattered the cooktop. I was so sad. It cost ~ $400 to replace it and that was 8 years ago. Hope it's not so costly for you!

Dh sells these things and he says that it depends on how much you paid for the stove. When his boss cracked his top, it would have cost him $400 to replace just the top--better off getting a new stove :(

Research the cost of your stove, if the cooktop is half of that or more, get a new stove with warranty.

Ack! A new one cost $550. It doesn't seem right.

Sigh.. I wish you all would have been completely wrong, but you were right on. (This board is amazing...) I called the repairman, and just the part alone is $400, plus the service call and labor. The stove is 6 years old, so we may just replace it. I just need to figure out if I am brave enough to risk a glass top again.

Thanks for your help!

My spouse dropped a cabinet on ours and it cost about $200 to replace.
