Sometimes I get really frustrated with my library, they don't have any of the books recommended on a blog I read so I'm trying to see if I can find something else. Is there a website out there that might help me? My library doesn't have
Vasn Gogh and the sunflowers
Camille and the sunflowers
Katie and the sunflowers
Painting the wind

Any other suggestions? TIA!

Does your library have a website with an online card catalog? If so, you could just search for Van Gogh as a subject. I often have trouble finding recommended reading books, but can find something very similiar if I search.

Yes I can search my library online and I did a search on Van Gogh and only came up with adult reading material. :glare:

A quick search turned up these:
http://www.vangoghgallery.com/painting/sunflowerindex.html
http://www.geocities.com/ljacoby_2000/vangogh.html

I'm sure there are plenty more.

Go to Amazon, search the books section for van Gogh, then narrow down the search by children's books and then books for the appropriate age group. They list 116 books about van Gogh for children ages 4-8. Use the titles and authors to do an interlibrary loan or buy the books (most of them you can get used although shipping is $4-ish).

I really love the Adventures in Art series - unfortunately they're even less easy to find, I'd think, than the titles you've already mentioned.

The Adventures in Art book on Van Gogh is called "Visiting Vincent Van Gogh (http://www.amazon.com/Visiting-Vincent-Van-Gogh-Adventures/dp/3791318764/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1231347773&sr=1-1)" by Caroline Breunesse.

The Met also puts out a series called "What Makes an X an X" (insert artist for X). "What Makes a Van Gogh a Van Gogh (http://www.amazon.com/What-Makes-Van-Gogh/dp/0670035734/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1231347928&sr=1-1)" is by Richard Muhlberger.

Does your library not have Interlibrary Loan? I'd just die withouth ILL... I can just order up all the books online from home, and then they have them waiting for me behind the desk when I get there... it's like Christmas!

Many libraries are receptive to suggestions from patrons. You could communicate with the children's librarian that you have an interest in children's books about art, and/or give specific titles.

Thanks for these links, they look great!

Candace (http://candacemercyisnew.blogspot.com/2009/01/our-next-artist-van-gogh.html)just posted some great resources on this.

This is where I got the list of books that my library doesn't have any of. :(

Thanks for the suggestion, I did this and found a lot of books, so far my library has none of them!

These two titles look great but my library doesn't have them either. My library does do inter Library loan but you have to pay $5 upfront per book in case there is a shipping charge, if there isn't you get your money back but I can't afford to put a lot of money upfront for a library loan. Even if I did with some books I would rather just buy them then to mess around with it.

Many libraries are receptive to suggestions from patrons. You could communicate with the children's librarian that you have an interest in children's books about art, and/or give specific titles.

I may talk to the children's librarian about this, it looks like for VanGogh they just don't have much. I have on occassioin asked that the library buy a certain book and I'm always pushed toward the inter library loan route and then when I say I would rather request that the library buys it the request hardly ever gets filled.

Thanks for all the suggestions ladies. The only book I could find at our library is Call Art for young people Vincent Van Gogh we'll see how far we can get with it.
