Hi there!
I am going to have to start teaching Logan-8 cursive. How do I know he is ready? And what are your favorite curriculums? I peeked at Bob Jones and really liked it but can't find it anywhere. He is doing really well in other subjects, and his penmanship is good. Will this be really time consuming? Thank you!

Hi there!

We start cursive whenever my kids can form all of their printed letters correctly and have the correct spacing between letters in a word and between words.

And what are your favorite curriculums?
We don't use a set curriculum. We just do copywork on lined paper. Day one I write the capital A and lowercase a using a light marker or highligher. I have them trace it a couple of times and then write it a few times. As we add letters, I try to add in some works as well. When we learn B, they would also write ab and baa. By the time we reach D, they can write add, bad, Dad, and cab. Every 4-5 letters, I give them a blank sheet of paper and ask them to write the letters that they have learned so far to see if we need to review. Once they've learned the whole alphabet, we start copying sentences in cursive.

Will this be really time consuming?
We usually spend 5-10 minutes a day at the most. It is usually closer to 5. HTH

I like HWT for teaching cursive. My ds basically taught himself using just the workbook, even though I had the TM.

I have used HTW for all of my children.
