I asked back in November about combining my 1st and 3rd graders next year and several of you suggested SL. I have a question about ordering and thought you all could help.

Can I just order the IG for Core 1 and the reader schedules for both girls (1 and 2 advanced or intermediate or whatever it is) and then get the books used or from the library? I mean, is that doable? We have several of the books used in Core 1 including Usborne Time Traveler, World History book and CHOW.

My second question is this, are SL IGs hard to come by used? I will check the site, but I think the latest ed. was in 2007. I'm not ruling out buying new, but if I can find it used that would be a great benefit.

I'm still going to check out Biblioplan and for some reason MWF keeps popping into my head. I guess Adventures is what I'd use for a 1st and 3rd grader? Ahhh... decisions, decisions!

Lots of people do it that way. We are going to use Sonlight next year and I've already started getting books off of Paperbackswap.com. What I can't get from there or our Thrift Store, I will try off of HSLibraryBuilder or Half.com. I've gotten TONS from Paperbackswap though. I plan on only buying the IG and a couple of harder to get books from Sonlight.

As for finding the IG used, I can't really help you there. You can check the popular used curriculum sites (including here). I see them pop up occassionally. You'll probably find more towards the end of the year.

Sounds fine to me.

I just bought a 2007 1st IG on eBay for $7, so there are deals out there.

You can get your books at the library. I believe the front of the IG tells you the weeks you will be using your books...so you can even check each month to make sure you have your books on hold or ready to go. I didnt do it that way this year...as I am terrible with my library books and forget to take them back. Our fines are .25 a day per book...so in one day I was late I owed like 6.00-9.00 Ughhh Imagine an entire week forgeting to take them back. In my case...I am better off buying the lot of books. :)

I'm doing it this way this time around. I suggest you first see if your library has an online book search (if not go to the library) then take the SL catalog and check off which books they have and the call #'s and shelf locations. The rest you can buy used or purhaps request from your library.
