Anyone know how to do this? Most corn is GM, so I don't want to use the mesa harina in the store or anything non-organic. We buy organic sprouted corn tortillas now, but they are very expensive and if I could make them myself we would eat tons and save mucho dinero.

Here's a website that explains how to make masa harina out of corn. You have to make the corn into masa harina in order to make corn tortillas. Otherwise, it's like asking how to make pancakes from wheat right out of the field.

Then you use the instructions here:

to make the tortillas.
Hope this helps!!

Well, I doubt you'll find any such a creature as organic masa harina, but I could be wrong. It's processed in such a way that I don't believe it can qualify for organic. However, Bob's Red Mill makes a great corn masa flour you might try. All you do is mix with water to form the dough. Divide into golf-ball sized portions and shape them into tortillas. I use a tortilla press because a) I have one and, b) it's just faster and simpler, but you can just use your hands or a well-floured rolling pin, too. Fry them up in a sparse amount of oil. I'd recommend using a cast iron pan, too. They don't seem to cook quite right in a regular fry pan.

Exactly! Thank you so much those sites are great and ones I never came across in my search. Even asked around on other yahoo groups. I love that the first one actually has a way to order the grinder. Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you again.

I will try this before we get up and running with a grinder. Thanks for the detailed info. I saw a tortilla press at my local tortarilla just the other day and have a cast iron skillet. Thanks!
