Would it be a waste to buy both?I thaught of using MOH for my 6th grader and SOTW for my K-3 graders. But are they pretty much the same thing?

I personally like MOH for the older students (upper elementary through JRH) and SOTW for younger kids. The ages you state would work beautifully with both. However, I would teach to the oldest student using MOH and carry the younger along in the same program. I don't have time to teach 2 separate history programs, but you might have a different schooling dynamic which would allow 2 programs to be taught effectively. And, yes, I think they are pretty much the same thing. MOH is just a little more mature IMO.

Here's a way to do both--
MOH coordinated with SOTW (http://www.redshift.com/~bonajo/sotwmoh.htm)
I would think about doing a timeline ala MOH with your oldest, but do a lot of the activities from the activity guide that goes with SOTW with your littles. Write the narrations for your younger kids, but make your older one do his own.

I use them both together, and I LOVE the combo! I primarily use MOH, but add in SOTW text, and activities from SOTW as I have time....
