I want to do a "unit" using one of these Thornton Burgess Books...
The Burgess Bird Book for Children
The Burgess Animal Book for Children
The Burgess Seashore Book for Children

Do you know of any lapbooks or notebooking pages that specifically use these books?

I found a gem on homeschoolshare.com for the Holling C. Holling book, Pagoo (http://www.homeschoolshare.com/pagoo.php), that we are planning to do this summer, but I was hoping there is something like this...somewhere...for the Burgess books.

Thanks! :001_smile:

Here are coloring pages to go with the bird book: http://www.birds.cornell.edu/schoolyard/T_Resouces/ColoringBook.pdf

And here are animal photos to go with the animal book: http://burgessanimals.shutterfly.com/

But I don't know of any lapbooks/notebook pages. Sorry!

Thanks so much for the links! I had no idea the shutterfly burgess animal thingy existed! I'll have to try to figure out a way to use those.

Anyone else know of some great resources?

No more help from me, but another person grateful you asked the question. I've had the Burgess Bird Book for over a year now, got part way through, moved and haven't picked it up again. I foresee some fun with it this spring and summer. I'll keep looking for more answers.

Just to let you know that Barb from Harmony arts will be doing a series of animal nature studies using the Burgess Animal Book and the Handbook of Nature Study beginning in Jan. Here's the post (http://handbookofnaturestudy.blogspot.com/2008/11/plans-for-outdoor-hour-challenge.html) on that. Also, I think that her daughter will have notebooking pages to go with it. Here's the link to Barb's nature study blog (http://www.handbookofnaturestudy.blogspot.com/). Hope that helps!

There is a taxonomy chart on the AmblesideOnline site:
http://www.amblesideonline.org/TaxonKeyBurgess.shtml
We are making a poster with the Peterson Field Guide Coloring Book stickers and made different sections for each branch.

Regarding Holling C Holling books, don't forget http://www.googlelittrips.org/ for "Paddle to the Sea"
