For those of you who have used Horizons Math what did you do after your child completes Horizons 6. My dd is doing well w/ Horizons but now I need to figure out what's next-any suggestions? TIA

I switched my oldest dc to Math U See after Horizons 6. I discovered that even though they'd done great in the program and 'passed' just fine, that unless I prompted them how to approach a problem they were stumbling. I don't mean that as a criticism of Horizons, though! They just didn't understand the 'why's' of Math (which I thought might be a good thing before going on to High School math!) so I thought the very different approach of MUS would be good for them. So far so good!

What level MUS did you go into ?

Bula, I just wanted to comment that I found the same thing when my dd switched in public school from Saxon 3 to another program. I think just using a different program (almost any program) can strengthen a child's math skills and point out weaknesses that can slip by--
Dd had to explain something she knew how to do--she needed to tell "why" and that was really good for her. (I recall early this year, she "harrumph'd" into the kitchen, grumbling, "Next year, we're using SAXON math!" I had to giggle at that one!)

I did the MUS placement tests with them and they went back a bit and one did Epsilon and Zeta and one just did Zeta. They're both in different places in Albegra I now.

I think you're absolutely right! I'm not organized enough (or have too many dc!) to supplement from 2 programs all along like some do but I can see definite benefits of switching programs sometime.

BJU Pre-Algebra, then either Foerster's Algebra I or Saxon Algebra I depending on the student.

I use a mix of resources to do K- 6th. It depends on the learning style of the child, but both my older children did BJU Pre-Algebra, and I am planning on using it with the younger ones too.
