improvement? Do you think there is a connection between food allergies and pesticides? I have a ds who has had an anaphylactic reaction to raw egg (dipped his finger in batter and tasted) and another who has had an anaphylactic reaction to milk in processed foods as well as contact reactions to milk.

How do you keep the costs down and deal with "eating on the run" without any processed foods?

No, I haven't noticed a difference.

We do try to eat organic most of the time (whenever it's feasible) for other reasons, but I haven't noticed it having any relation to ds' food allergies.

As for expense, well, it's an issue. We eat a ton of produce and it adds up (even when dh and I have been eating a vegan diet so nearly all that I buy is produce and dry beans, lol!). I think "eating on the run" has been a decision for us -- to go out of our way to eat at home, etc... I had really gotten into the habit of grabbing "easy" things instead of "good" things for a while there, and I had convinced myself it was necessary for us. But it wasn't, and the switch wasn't as difficult as I had told myself it would be.

I still avoid pesticides, but just for the sake of not having them in my system.

My elderly aunt was allergic to eggs, and during the time she grew up all foods were pretty organic. :) (If she were alive, now, she'd be about 120!)

I have a nephew who would have an allergic reaction if he walked past a turkey. (His mother had the raw turkey for T-day sitting on the counter when he walked past it.) He was also very allergic to pesticides. One day his mother had to pick him up from school because of his reaction to lawn chemicals that had been sprayed around the school.

From what I have seen, pesticides don't necessarily contribute to other allergies, but a person can be allergic to pesticides as well as other stuff. I don't think eating organic makes a whole lot of difference. My sister did not buy organic foods (not available when he was growing up), and he never reacted to pesticide residues in food (that they know of, anyway). BTW, he's still extremely allergic to turkey!
