View Full Version : What herbs/flavorings do you cook with your chicken when making chicken noodle soup?

I am just recovering from the flu and ds 4 is still sick:(. We need some homemade chicken noodle soup to make us feel better, but I have never made it from scratch before. I have a chicken in a pot of water boiling, what should I add? Thanks!

When I make mine I usually throw carrots in the water that I boiled the chicken in. I also add onions, garlic (lots!), celery if I have it. After that cooks down I add a can of chicken broth for extra flavor. When the carrots are just tender I throw in the noodles, and add some parsley at some point. When the noodles are done, throw the chicken back in, let simmer just until chicken is reheated, and serve. That's it. Simple but everyone really loves it.

sea salt, black pepper, parsley, carrots, onions, celery, and some chicken broth for added flavor.

Garlic, parsley, salt, chicken stock or bouillon, butter, carrots, celery and any other veggie that sounds good. Add the noodles or rice at the end.

I add Campbell's chicken broth, sometimes chicken bouillon powder, and the following extras:

Lots of diced carrots
Lots of diced celery
Parsley
Basil
Salt, pepper

This is what I do for sick people and little kids. In general, I'd put in a lot more herbs, onions & garlic. I cook the carrots and celery with the chicken so they will get really soft.

salt, pepper, celery salt, garlic salt
chicken bullion if needed
approx 1-2 tsp tobasco sauce
noodles or rice

This sounds most like mine, but I also add in sage, rosemary and thyme, all crushed versions.... And black pepper....

carrots, Celery, onions, garlic, a little cumin, salt pepper, a dash of chili powder and a dash of cayenne pepper.

I prefer tarragon to parsley in chicken noodle soup. Yum...

Of course, veggies and noodles go in at the end with the shredded chicken.

I get her happy and add these plus basil & parsley, I use leaf versions though, I love being able to see the herbs.
