In my ongoing search for supportive, durable, fashionable shoes and clogs, I recently purchased two pairs of Dansko clogs. I have been wearing them around the house, trying to decide whether I like them or not. I can return them if I don't like them.

One pair is a pair of "Professional" shoes / clogs; the other is a traditional clog style. At teh end of the day, my feet ache, whether I wear one or the other.

However, I've been told it may take some time to get used to them, as they have a very sturdy foot bed.

Prior to trying the Dansko clogs, I've always worn and loved Naots or Mephistos, but both styles have higher heels this year, which I wasn't crazy about.

I've been assured that (if I can get used to them) the Dansko clogs are a worthwhile investment because they will last forever.

I'd love to hear your experiences with Dansko clogs!

I bought my first pair last year - the professional clogs. I knew the minute I put them on that they were what I needed. My feet and legs had been aching constantly for months - starting the minute I got out of bed. My Danskos have really changed that, and they are the *only* shoes I can wear without hurting.

Every once in a while I have gone to the Walking Store or another store that sells the best of the shoes for old ladies (smile) and ask if there isn't another brand that will feel as good but look cooler. Even though they sell other brands, I get the same answer, "for women who really love the Dansko clog, nothing else seems to feel as good."

So if they aren't working for you, then maybe they just aren't the right thing for your feet. I will say that my sister is a nurse, and she says that while it's true a lot of nurses wear Danskos, she's been told they are great "standing" shoes but not the best "walking" shoes and that women tend to twist ankles in them. But I walk in mine all over and have never had a problem.

but when I tried on Birkenstocks the first time, I didn't want to take them off. My feet stopped hurting the first day (and they had hurt every day for weeks before that).

I went back to the store a few days later to try a different Birkenstock style, and it didn't work at all. The saleslady told me people tend to prefer one footbed style or another. I think it depends on exactly where and how high the arch support is. (That's my theory anyway -- I know I've tried on athletic shoes that hit me in the wrong place.)

I'm anxious to try Danskos the next time I need shoes since I've heard so much about them.

I just don't think there's a shoe that's right for everyone . . . Hope you find one that helps you!

I have a pair of Dansko clogs I have worn in the house for three years now. Even in the shoe store, it seemed that they relieved the pressure on my heels (had had heel pain for years). I had no problem getting used to them. Prior to the Danskos, I had worn Birkenstocks (and still wear a pair of those outdoors in the summer).

As another poster mentioned, I think a lot depends on exactly how high and where the arch hits. For me, Dansko is perfect; Birkenstocks were good, but not as good as Dansko. Your feet might do better with a different brand.

The Dansko clogs have eliminated heel pain and foot fatigue for me in the house. We have hardwood floors. If I don't wear the Danskos while I make dinner, I am guaranteed an evening of foot and leg fatique. If I do wear the Danskos, I'm good to go.
