DD5.5 yo is using OPG to review and teach more precise phonics rules. We are coasting through it at 1-2 lessons a day. Should be done in another 18 weeks. WTM recommends starting Spelling Workout A in 1st Grade. Should I go ahead and begin in the second semester of K5 or wait? It looks really basic. We just finished HWT kindergarten workbook.
Thanks!

My dd5 completed phonics instruction last year and she's started working on spelling with Explode the Code and copywork.
She doesn't really need the ETC for phonics because she's ready quite well, but I need some things to keep her busy while I'm helping dd8. So, I require her to do all the written work in ETC which gives her handwriting practice, spelling & some phonics review.
When they're ready.... go for it!

I second that. Absolutely. If you feel she is ready for it by all means the earlier you start with spelling the better.
My 3rd daughter who is 5 has been doing spelling really since the end of last year. We started with simple words like cat, hat , etc.
Now she is spelling words such as , have, says , with etc. and doing well with it. She is now 5 1/2 years old.
If your daughter is chomping at the bit go right ahead! :>)

I just recently started having ds spell the sight words he's learning. I started it because I wanted to make sure he had the words down, and thought it would be a good way for him to learn them better as well as learn to spell them.
His handwriting is way behind, so we use white boards and magnetic letters. He's done really well.

If she's interested go ahead and start now. I'm doing AAS 1 with my would-rather-spell-than-read dd and she loves it.
