Do you like Wordsmith?? I've looked at it online, but it is really hard to judge off one page. I know SWB recommends and I have read the review, but I wanted some mom opinions. Thanks! Julie

I used it this year for my 6th & 8th grade dds. I really, really liked the beginning -- the working with words and grammar sections. And my girls did well with it. However, in part 3 (when you actually start writing) my 8th grader became increasingly frustrated. I think the assignment to write a description of a person, after making a chart, was the last straw. I decided to stop using WS and let her do NaNoWriMo for November (which she loves)...and start something different in January.

Now my 6th grader was doing fine also and would have continued, but I've signed both girls up for a Home2Teach class in January.

I do think it is a good program, especially at the beginning. But it says on the cover "A creative writing course..." and that isn't what my oldest needs. She needs something much more concrete for writing. She is very creative in her own writing and art, but not in school assignments. I have high hopes for Home2Teach.

Overall I'll give it :thumbup1: but not :thumbup:.
