We have always used R & S English. We love it. I am *considering* doing Bob Jones English next year because I *may* use their DVD program. (Or, I may use VP Omnibus I...see, I REALLY need help, don't I? Talk about two extremes!)
Anyway, would you please compare Bob Jones English and R & S English for grade 7? Is Bob Jones as rigorous as R & S? Bob Jones does diagram, yes?
programs this year.We started with R&S and switched to BJUP.R&S covers much more diagramming.I felt the lessons required more student/teacher interaction and were very thorough.Maybe too much,at least for us.R&S was just constant drill. (I initially felt that if dd could complete the text I would not have her do any more grammar.)R&S uses a hard cover text.
BJUP uses a workbook, directs much of the teaching to the student and permits as much or as little teacher input as needed.Of the 2,we prefer BJUP because we are more familiar with it and both dd and I felt the lessons are not as repetitious as the ones in R&S.At this point, I think I will stick with this through 12th grade. There is some diagramming but not in every lesson every day. Also, there are schedules in the TM to complete the text in either 1 semester or 2.
I felt that the writing assignements in both are about the same.By that, I mean the same types of writing assignments. They all feel like typical "school" assignments.
As for one being more advanced than the other I think it depends on what your goals are and what your children are like.Dd had used BJUP in the past, scored very high on her english portions of her standardized tests, and wanted to be an editor when she grew up, and I thought she would love the challenge of R&S but I could see it just sucking the love of grammar right out of her in the few months that we used it.I say, use what works for you though no matter what anyone else says.
