Hi all,
I know this is off topic but I've never bought a cargo carrier and I need one now for a loooonnng trip to the in-laws -- with three of our kids and three of our dogs. We don't have a van or SUV or anything, just a 2006 Toyota Corolla. All the cargo carriers I am finding require a roof rack. Can I add that? How do I know what to get? I just need something safe and serviceable, as we don't travel often.

I'm thinking of this carrier http://www.amazon.com/Highland-10391...xgy_auto_img_a (http://www.amazon.com/Highland-10391-Waterproof-Soft-Sided-Carrier/dp/B0002MA8TE/ref=pd_bxgy_auto_img_a)
and there is something called a "bar carrier" on the same page. Is that the roof rack? Or is that something else that I would need a roof rack for? Do we need the tiedowns, too...?

Please help! I need to find one quickly enough to have it arrive by our departure date on the 21st of this month.

This is what we got - our car has roof racks, but according to the website, they aren't necessary.

You can get removable roof racks. Don't have time to search right now, but we had one when we moved cross-country several years ago. We attached a soft carrier to it; it was great!

I believe the one you listed does require a roof rack. Here is one that only straps to the car top for $39.99. I would call them to verify as I haven't used that exact product.
