I have what is the Franklin Edition Complete Course copyright 1982

Can anyone tell me whether or not I can use this in place of the 3rd or 4th Courses?

Does "complete" course mean it is a compilation of 1 - 4 courses?:confused:

Wasn't it a 1-6 series (7th-12th grades?)

No, it's not a compilation. I believe the course of study is:

First Course - grade 7
Second Course - grade 8
Third Course - grade 9
Fourth Course - grade 10
Fifth Course - grade 11
Complete: Grade 12

ETA: Does anyone know if these Holt-McDougal (http://www.hrw.com/c/product.web?nocache@14+s@2VwacgbhoA.t2+record@2324 ) books are reprints?

No, it's not a compilation. I believe the course of study is:

First Course - grade 7
Second Course - grade 8
Third Course - grade 9

My understanding is the same as the above.

I'm not sure if the books are revisions or reprints. I suspect the latter. John Warriner died in 1987. Here is his obituary (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9B0DE5DA1138F93BA3575BC0A9619482 60).

I am using Warriner's English Grammar and Composition copyright 1977. We are on the fourth course. The complete course was meant for the 12th grade. However, my friend who recommended it to me told me that some colleges use the Complete Course because it can be college level depending on the copyright date.

She also told me the older versions are better than the newer ones.

I don't think you can use it instead of the 3rd or 4th course.
