How much time to do you want to cover? From the age of exploration to modern times?
We're using History Odyssey and are entering are beginning the Empires and Colonialism units (3 and 4). We'll be reading a few books from the WTM year three list:
The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin (1771)
The Declaration of Independence (1776)
The Federalist Papers, Hamilton et.al.
The Constitution of the United States (ratified 1788) -- we'll be reading the one that is "unabridged", that is, has the text that was crossed out on the original
And Frankenstein, not specifically US history, but the other title from SWB list. It's an interesting way to enter into the whole discussion of science and who is more "human," the scientist or the monster.
We'll also use some secondary sources, including a few chapters of Ellis' Founding Brothers and early on, Galileo's Daughter.
This may not help...?
