Western Kansas???

Well, the job hunt in North Dakota hasn't yielded anything yet but Far West Kansas is looking really good right now....... does anyone here have any first hand knowledge of Leoti, Kansas???? It is a really small town of about 1,500 people and it looks nice and quiet....... but I don't know. I can handle small town living (hopefully we would have a place out in the country anyway).... but I've heard horror stories of places nearby.... Garden City, KS and Dodge City, KS.

Anyone here from Western Kansas who could fill me in and settle my fears??? :confused:

My Dad was born and raised in Garden City. I've visited relatives several times. I find it hard to think of "horror" connected with GC.

From what I've read..... gangs, drugs, crime, etc. When I googled crime in GC I read that the crime rate is higher then the National Norm..... :confused:

the numbers for GC are above average.

For comparison, I checked to see what the rates are in the town we live closest to. What a shock!!! Our area is truly awful by the numbers, but I don't feel at all unsafe here. (There are areas of town I wouldn't want to go into alone at night, but that's true anywhere.)

That's like the neighborhood I live in....... everyone talks trash about it but I've lived here for 9 years and never had a problem...... so I know to take the numbers with a grain of salt...... but at the moment it is the only thing I have to go off of.

I live in Garden City KS and I have all my life. It is a wonderful city to live in. Compared to larger cities like Wichita we have hardly any crime. I am always telling my dh how happy I am that we live in such a safe town for our children to grow up in.

That's great to hear!!! At this point all I have to go on are different Forums, etc and most of them paint a more negative picture of the area...... I am thrilled to hear that it isn't what I've been reading.

Like I mentioned, Hubby has been talking to a company in Leoti and we will know next week if he needs to go out there for a more thorough interview. It looks good and we are all excited about the prospect of moving away from the Atlanta-area and embracing small town living.

I read on the net that there is/was a homeschool group out of Scott City.... and a few out of Garden City..... this is great!!

Again, thank you for your assistance...... It wasn't my intent to ruffle feathers but just needed some of my concerns answered.
