Any recommendations?
I'd like something that asked leading questions and got them thinking rather than word searches and puzzles. It doesn't necessarily have to be for boys. I didn't find anything at our Christian bookstore other than just the puzzle/game type "devotionals". Once they hit 13, I found GREAT stuff out there! But for now, I'd LOVE your opinions!
Thanks!

I like reading "Thoughts for Young Men" by J.C. Ryle with my 9 and 12 yr. old ds.

Do you mean something they can do independently? Or maybe with you or Dad?
My ds (now 12) has been using the "Our Daily Bread" devotionals for a year or two. They're short, too the point, and include Bible reading. Ds reads one chapter of the Bible a day, with the goal of reading straight through the Bible. Then he does the Daily Bread.
Before this, he did a LOT of Kay Arthur's Bible Studies for childen. They're broken up into bits to do each day, and do involve writing. BUt I like that they are VERY expository, focus on what the Bible says, and do not talk down to kids.
Here's a link to the Kay Arthur studies. (https://secure2.convio.net/pmi/site/Ecommerce?store_id=1101&TYPE=Discover%204%20Yourself&NAME=&PRICE=&SEARCH=Go&JServSessionIdr004=1bixp8h5m1.app6b)

My 11yo son and I have been really encouraged and challenged by this book. Can't recommend it highly enough.

Thanks for mentioning this book. I wasn't familiar with the title, so I Googled it and found that the same man wrote Created for Work which I already have on my bookshelf, but hadn't given to ds. I just handed it to him. I'll look for a copy of Boyhood and Beyond when he finishes this one! :)

My ds10 loves baseball. At Christmas we gave him the book "Called Up. Stories of life and faith." It's not exactly a devotional book but it is broken up into 49 chapters. Sometimes things are a little above his head so I interpret a bit. We read this together at night and don't always read a chapter or sometimes read only half a chapter. (Most are short but some are long.) This doesn't exactly fit your devotional need but it is a book I highly recommend if you will read it together and if your son loves baseball. We've learned more about the baseball world as well! And Dave Dravecki has a great testimony.

I have also been looking at "Gotta Have God: Cool devotions for guys age 10-12." I can't recommend it since I haven't used it yet but you might take a look at it.
