Hello,

We are using MUS for our main curriculum. My dd has reached the point in the book where she is doing regrouping in subtraction. She does great with their method, but I like to teach her multiple ways of doing things. I taught her how to do mental addition the Singapore way, and she often prefers to do it that way. She switches back and forth between MUS style and Singapore style. I would like to teach her the Singapore way for subtraction as well.

Would someone be kind enough to explain to me how Singapore teaches how to do mental subtraction? If you could give me a sample problem that would be great!

Also, RS teaches a method called Terry's way. I like that too. Is Singapore's method similar to this??

Thanks for your help!!

Mental subtraction in Singapore is very similar to mental addition. You work the problem from left to right. So for 365-184 you would do 365-100=265-80=185-4=181 HTH

thanks for the reply. I figured it was something like that. Does anybody know if this is the same way RS teaches?
