and any other advice for raising HDL. We eat healthy (lots of fiber, spinach, veggies, omega-3 rich foods), so he is frustrated.

Try food rich in Niacin (oatmeal is the only one I can think of off the top of my head). Does he get plenty of exercise? Is he working with a doctor? Low HDL is very serious. My BIL died of a heart attack with an HDL of 5. We've gotten my husband's HDL from 9 all the way up to 17:rolleyes: with Tricor and Niaspan plus my husband had a heart device put in, just in case. Low cholesterol=very, very bad!!
Good luck!!

Make sure he also adds regular aerobic exercise to his schedule.
I had a conversation about this with my doctor recently, and he suggests cutting out all trans-fats, adding olive oil, avocados and macadamia nuts to one's diet while reducing refined carbohydrates.
Here is an article (http://www.webmd.com/cholesterol-management/news/20041119/grape-juice-raises-good-cholesterol-levels) about the benefits of adding grape juice instead of wine.

You can get a supplement in pill form that is the good stuff from red wine. It's called resveritrol (http://www.vitacost.com/Jarrow-Formulas-Resveratrol-Synergy). There are quite a few different companies that make it in various combinations.
Also, artichoke (http://www.vitacost.com/Source-Naturals-Artichoke-Extract-500) is supposed to help cholesterol levels. This comes in supplement form also. Try Googling artichoke cholesterol for info.

I guess, LOL! I am no expert, but it was recommeded to me and I thought it was nice. It's also organic, I believe. If you have a whole foods type grocery near by, you should have several choices.
I also agree with getting rid of refined flours AND sugars, if you dh eats them.

Look into pomegranate juice. I was just talking with my friend today who says it lowered her total cholesterol & especially increased her HDL significantly. She found a pom juice concentrate at a "global Market" here but unfortunately I cannot tell you where to get concentrated Pom juice. I'm going to try this very soon. HTH
