My DD has been in a classical school for 5 yrs. She's in 4th grade presently and the work is becoming too much for her CAPD, ADHD & hearing loss (bilateral hearing aids). We are at the end of our rope. We've received little help from the school and the PS has taken so long to "evaluate" her, that the school year will be over before we even get an answer from them. We are taking her out of school at Christmas. I suppose I will have to homeschool her. We've had a billion tests, evaluations, counseling, therapy, speech, reading, etc. What we fail to have is a specific curriculum that works best for APD children. Me reading a book on APD is not going to address the problems. Is there NOT a protocal with specific types of courses, types of testing, guidelines for these children? I'm NOT a teacher, but I am going to try to get my DD what she needs. Any suggestions, guidelines, direction very appreciated.

I'm so sorry the school system has failed your dd. I suspect she will do much better at home.

The key to teaching your dd is to find and use her strengths. You will have to learn to adjust the curriculum to fit your daughter. With my ds with APD and dysgraphia I use standard curriculum but I do a lot of reading aloud and I minimize handwriting requirements and often scribe for him. He takes frequent breaks as well.

I think just being at home where it is quiet will help quite a bit. Does your dd have trouble understanding the teacher or following instructions? Without competing noise she won't have any trouble hearing you and you can always write down or repeat instructions.

I don't know of any specific curriculum for APD/ADHD. If you ask what everyone uses you will get many different answers. If you let us know what works and doesn't work for your dd maybe we could give you some suggestions.
