After eating turkey over at my brother's (he's a hs biology teacher), he showed me these really wonderful looking biology books from New Zealand - they have a page or two explaining a topic in some depth, then has comprehension questions (they're consumable). They also make a lot of use of charts and graphs and synthesizing/analyzing data. They have different editions for different countries; the US/International edition has a table in the front that tells you which topics to pay particular attention to for the AP exam or the International Baccalaureate. There's also a UK, Australian and of course NZ edition, geared for their tests.
I don't think you'd want to use these instead of a textbook, but as supplementary practice/work on a topic, or to prepare for AP exams, they look wonderful. They also have books by subtopics (ecology, anatomy/phisiology, etc.)
Just had to share!
