My 4 year old is reading. I have Bob Books, the CLP kindergarten phonics readers (but anything beyond book 1 of those is too hard for him yet) and some of the Starfall books like Zac the Rat.

May I have suggestions for very early readers that would be good for him? I did look briefly into the A Beka Little Owl books and they look good. Any other suggestions?

Sonlight's Fun Tales are similar to BOB books, also the Nora Gaydos Now I'm Reading series.

My 4 year old is also reading and enjoys Dr.Seuss (the easier ones- Hop on Pop, The Foot Book, etc), and the Spot series. He likes that he can read the Spot books with no help. The Biscuit series and Dick and Jane are hits with him as well.

ETA: Any of the "My First I Can Read" books or any leveled readers that are for PreK and K are good, usually they are level 1.

I second the Nora Gaydos recommendation. My DD is reading the level 1 books with minimal help ATM.

Had clicked on the thread to recommend the Nora Gaydos readers, so take that as another vote for them. :)

I like the Nora Gaydos books too, and the Level 1 and Level 2 Step Into Reading Books by these titles:

The Big Egg
Cat Traps
The Lion and the Mouse
Tiger Is A Scaredy Cat
Quick, Quack, Quick!

We use Bob Books, the readers from LLATL Blue, and some of the old Dick and Jane readers.

The I see Sam readers would be perfect for him. http://www.roadstoeverywhere.com/3RsPlusRead.html or www.iseesam.com

If you are interested in a sample, just email me. These books--8 sets in all would take him from K-mid/late 3rd grade reading. You could just buy 1 or 2 sets at a time.

I also have a 4 yo who is reading. She likes the Nora Gaydos books, and we throw in a little Dick and Jane for variety and to work on frequently seen "sight" words.
