At this rate dd8 will finish her Calvert Third Grade Spelling CD in a few weeks. She uses the CD on her own and then I test her later to check her retention. I'm wondering what to do with when we're done.
I have a half finished 3rd grade Catholic Heritage Curricula Speller that I could pull out.
I also have the teacher guides for Megawords. I was planning on starting Megawords next year.
As a family we also are going through the spelling rules together for fun.:)
Do you have any suggestions on what to do next?
Thanks!

Go on to the 4th grade unit.
Yes, I too would move onto the next grade level.

I found a list of the 1200 most common words in writing and went through those with my dd when she was getting 100's on every spelling test in any curriculum. I also found a list of commonly misspelled words on the internet. You might try going through lists like that with her. I would ask my dd about 50 words at a time, then have her practice the words she missed. I did less than 50 of the commonly misspelled because they were harder. I would retest her on only those words. I've not used curriculum for spelling since 3rd grade. If I find misspelled words in her writing, I have her practice those. I just didn't see the point of spending a lot of time on practice words she all ready knew. She is an AVID reader, and I think that's why she's so good at spelling and vocabulary. She scores 99th percentile and post college level on achievement tests in those areas.

Jumping on the bandwagon here - When we finish a book mid-year, I just go on to the next grade level book.

I think I'll keep my eyes open for a used Calvert 4 Spelling CD. Maybe if I start looking now, I'll get lucky and find one by the time she's done.
Thanks!
I wish I had the motivation to work off of lists. I tried last year but failed. I like that dd can be independent in spelling. Then I only have to jump in once in awhile to confirm that it's working.

I have the 4th cd, but he'll use that next year. I would watch words your dd wants to use and how her spelling is in free writing and other subjects. From that create a personalized spelling list as needed and do spelling dictation sentences if she struggles with spelling in other subjects. We use the Spelling Plus Dictation Resource book, it has sentences listed by grade level which makes it pick up and teach. Dictation really makes them think, especially about the homophones. Also how is she with catching her own spelling and mechanical errors? Perhaps add in an editing program such as Daily Editing at Teacher Created Resources. I think her time would be better used fine tuning those skills instead of moving on to the 4th grade cd. YMMV
