I am looking for a good story Bible to read through with my 3rd and 1st graders next year that is thorough and beyond picture Bibles, but still understandable. So far, I have suggestions for Hurlbut and Vos. What is your favorite story Bible for these ages?
Thanks!

I really liked the Egermeier Story Bible. I think Sonlight uses (or used) it in one of their lower cores. I read it to my dd in 1st/2nd grade.

I really like DK Children's Illustrated Bible (ISBN 0892213329). The illustrations are gorgeous, the stories are short, and the captions are informative. This was the choice Bible spine for TOG Yr 1 Classic lower grammar (I don't know what is used in Redesign).
For children a bit older, Children's Illustrated Bible published by Hermes House (ISBN 1843097362) is great. The top half of an oversized, double spread page contains the Bible story, and the bottom half of the spread contains encyclopedia-like information and pictures.

our favorites - Egermeiers is good if you want a "story Bible" and then we moved on to the Golden Children's Bible - which has beautiful language (more like King James) and is a great training for reading more difficult literature later.

I love the Golden Children's Bible!! I like reading it out loud to my kids.

The language was beautiful. I couldn't make it through the chapter on the crucifixion. I got all choked up.
