The Japanese embassy has approved my son's student visa, and the college billed his student loans, credited his scholarship and is sending his certificate of eligibility so he can get his passport stamped. He is now fully paid for and one UPS letter and a trip to the embassy away from going to the university in Tokyo in January.
I just wanted to share. Back in the spring I thought he would never choose a college, then he chose one on the other side of the world. It has been a long journey getting to this point.

Congratulations! My ds attended Kansai Gaidai University in Kyoto and LOVED it. He was only there for one semester, but wishes it could have been more and is eagerly looking forward to a (someday) return to Japan for an extended stay.

Can you share what made him consider going to university halfway around the world? That in itself must have been an interesting journey. Will his classes be in Japanese?

:iagree:What exciting news - you must be so proud. :cheers2:
I hope you will consider sharing his pictures with us. I am a travel hound and seeing pictures of Japan would be fabulous. (I hope that doesn't make me just plain nosey!) :tongue_smilie:

How exciting! What made him choose the Univ.of Tokyo?
We visited 4 colleges.
He applied to and was accepted at 5 colleges.
He went to 2 college fairs.
He looked at hundreds of college fliers.
He was taking Japanese at the local cc from a wonderful little Japanese prof. who also teaches at the local univ. and had taught in Tokyo many years ago.
A week before finals in Japanese 3, a recruiter came to the class. He texted from class with the url from the univ. and said that was where he wanted to go. He was determined. He wasn't ever very committed to the schools we had looked at, but this was different so we have been working hard for it ever since.
