I am considering this spelling program for my third grader. I did the placement test and she placed into book A. Then when I looked through book A online it looks like she will likely place into level 50. I don't know that I can afford to use it for levels 50 to the end. That would be a lot of money for so few lessons. Has anyone started at level B? Is there any review from book A? My dd is reading really well, but she still struggles with spelling.

with my 3rd grader. The first 35 or so lessons were really ridiculously easy, but we did them so we would understand the program. At this point (a bit farther in the book) it is really great. It is still VERY easy at this point, but the constant sentence writing and reusing the words is really cementing them in his head. I really like it. It only takes about 10 minutes and I really think he is getting alot out of it. Hth

But it is helpful to start at an easier level if possible, and let your child get a feeling of confidence and competence.
We started Apples and Pears halfway through book A. We are now on lesson 13 of book C, and it's been a fantastic program for my DS. He didn't learn to spell with anything else, and while he still doesn't LIKE spelling (not really the most interesting subject!) even he admits that he has made huge progress.
Even in level C, he often breezes through lessons, but I feel that's because of the slow, incremental way the program presents words. By the time he's expected to spell a word just from dictation of a sentence, he's already copied it and seen it several times.

Thank you for the help. I think I am going to go ahead and order level B. I had my dd take some more of the placement tests for level A (I am so happy that I can look at this online). She actually more closely placed in level 60. I just can't spend the money for 7 lessons.
I am so happy that others like this program. My dd has been at close to a second grade spelling level for 2 years. We are both ready to find something that moves at the right pace for her. After looking at the books online this one seems to move at a pace that I think will be right for her.

We have just started using Apples and Pears (DD 6 1/2yr). We are only up to Level 14, Book A. Can anyone tell me if the books are ment to correlate to school year levels? Eg..Book A - year 1 etc.
We are also using Dancing Bears Book A as my DD is a struggling reader.
TIA

They are meant to be for the child at that level, regardless of grade level. My DS is 12, and currently in book C. He started book A when he was around 10.5.
