I posted this in another post, but I see people panicking, so I thought I would start a new thread. Here is what Lampstand said:
Yes you will be able to use it internet free! It will be sent via disk.
Let us know if you need anything else!

Now here is what I am said: There was some question about how TOG will be packaged. You don't have to worry about 2 things.
#1 It will NOT be Internet based
#2 It WILL be on a disk, so you can't loose it should your computer crash.
I notice people are all in a tizy and worried about this whole TOG thing, which I was a little shocked too. BUT TOG isn't changing all that much really. Your just getting your book on a disk instead of in paper format. If you really like paper format, IT WON'T Be that big of a deal to have it printed. It will just cost the same as if you bought it printed.
I really don't see what all the fuss is about. Really I don't???

Has Lampstand given any clues as to what the new price will be for the digital format? Just curious!

I think sometime in January, and only for Years 2 and 3 I think will be the intro price.

Are they pre-selling copies of year 4 like they did with 3? It seems like they could generate a little extra income that way, but I haven't seen any talk about pre-selling year 4.

Actually, it's not going to cost the same. The basic price was $225 for a year plan. They're estimating $25 per unit to be printed, which is $100. The DE will be $170. That's approximately $270 - which is a big jump from $225. I think anyone who knows they are going to want a print copy would be doing themselves a favor to pre-order, so they can be sure to get one.
Even with the price increase, I sure am glad they're staying in business, and hopefully by going digital, they will be able to continue. There also might be some kind of 'bonus bundle' with the DE, I'm hoping. Next year, I'll need Year 3, two levels of evaluations, gov't cd, and YR 3 map aids. That's around $70 right there. Even though that's just a huge amount of money to me (the $240 total I'll spend on TOG next year), it is definitely worth it, every penny.
I also think the DE will be a whole lot easier for me personally to navigate - I'm taking apart my current unit now and rearranging it so that I have all the rhetoric literature discussions in one place. With the DE, I can just print it out that way. This is a big improvement for me. :)

I thought they were still working on finishing Year 3?

I asked this morning, hopefully we'll have an answer soon.

In the past they have pre-sold the next available year plan while they were still working on the current year plan.

Thanks Karen. It seems like they could generate a little revenue by pre-selling year 4, even if it is just digital. But, maybe they want to make sure they can follow through with everything before they commit.
