Cynthia, (and others)

I noticed you use Chalkdust Geometry. Do you use the new or the traditional. How are you liking it? My friend has offered to let me use her Traditional Chalkdust, which would save me some money.

Has anyone used either? which is better? is there that much difference to justify the purchase of a new one?

Thanks for all the board help.

We used the traditional. I don't know what the differences are between the two versions. However, we did change from Chalkdust to Jacob's Geometry. My son really dislikes using video programs and does well with a traditional text. So...he's moving through Jacob's at a faster clip than he was through Chalkdust. We really don't have a problem with Chalkdust; it just didn't fit well with this son.

If you're planning on using Chalkdust, I would encourage you to use the one your friend is offering - save the $$$.

the Chalkdust traditional program last year with my oldest, and it worked quite well. Dana Moseley is an excellent teacher. I didn't care for the Larson text as much as other math programs we've used; the explanations are short and succinct there. I guess I like more examples. Nevertheless, despite having to re-do a chapter, my oldest did well with the program and learned geometry. Mr. Moseley does most of the teaching; the book is necessary for the problems, of course, but we didn't refer back that often to the book, except just to refer back to names of postulates and theorems.

We use the "new" program. I had heard mixed reviews about the traditional, but, not having seen it, I cannot comment on it. I had one friend who did not care for the "traditional" version b/c she did not feel that the lectures were as text-specific as they should have been. So, I bought the "new" version new to have the technical support. My ds really likes it. The new program is pretty "proofy," and, as always, Prof. Mosely's teaching is excellent.

Wish I could tell you more about the traditional program, but I have not seen it.

When I asked Mr. Mosely, he said he preferred the new program because it's more focused on core material.

We used the traditional Geometry a couple of years ago with oldest. Loved it - book and of course, dear Mosely. Will use it again next year with youngest.

Love both the application problems and proofs. What is the beef with the book? We found it to be a good match for us. I do remember one lecture that we thought was one lesson late but it wasn't any thing unconquerable. As always, work the curriculum for your child's needs not the other way around.

It would be an awesome gift to be able to use a Chalkdust course from a friend.
