Is there a PBS series on this.. or an audio book or a teaching company tape that has really helped cement facts and bring the war to life??

Liberty is the series I'd recommend. It was on PBS and is now available on DVD. Your library should have it. It's phenomenal.

The Patriot is a good movie in that time period. Fiction, but a worthwhile tie-in, IMHO.

We're renting the series John Adams from netflix. Its really interesting.
