I like them very much. My oldest dd used all levels of LLATL, and then used Lightning Literature from Hewitt her last two years of high school. LLATL only has two high school programs, so if you go this route, you'll need something else for your last two years of English/Literature.

ANYhow, this dd is now a freshman at Hillsdale College and doing very, very well in their rigorous English classes. She feels LLATL prepared her well.

She also used the Wordsmith series for writing in jr. and high school (also from Common Sense Press and recommended by LLATL) and in jr. high used Winston Grammar Basic and Word Works.

Actually, all my dc have used LLATL all the way through, with the exception of my ds that I pulled out of ps in 4th grade. He used it for 7th, 8th and 9th and then we put him in Community College English classes where he did extremely well.

My youngest dd used LLATL through 8th grade (through the gray book) and then we used Hewitt's Lightning Lit instead of LLATL. I wish we had used the LLATL. Oh well.......She is using Smarr Literature for her last two years of high school.

As you can see, our family has had very good results from using LLATL. Like any other curriculum, it works for some and not for others.

Katia,
Thanks for your insight!
I, too have used Winston Grammar, (Basic and Currently in Advanced), Wordsmith Apprentice, and are currently in Wordsmith.

Katia--just coming on to post the same thing! I don't have a child in college yet, but, I can see great results in our family from LLATL. We've done the same course so far and it's working well.
