I get my first paper back from my history class. Following the teacher's guidelines for the paper was harder than I expected, then when I turned it in I saw that it was formatted differently than everyone else's. Can I plead 25 years of ignorance? I'm such a wimp, I know I'll just die if I get less than a B.

Could anyone send some positive thoughts my way about 7 o'clock tonight? (EST:))

Coming your way. Poof!, as Anna would say. Report back, please, and let us know how it goes.

I took a final exam today (18 weeks of learnin' crammed into six) and it was... strange. I answered three handwritten pages worth by the time I realized that I had a) completely misread the question and b) was answering the second part of the test in the first part of my narration.

So I recopied it all into the right places, reformatted what I could salvage, started the first part over completely, and sent out thanks that I had three hours to do it in. I know that my frustration caused me to start to forget stuff.

I completely feel your pain on the format anxiety.

Get that paper! You'll do great!!

Believe it or not, grade deflation is rarely fatal. You might have a NDE (I certainly have), but I didn't actually ever expire from a bad grade.

(Not that a B is a bad grade.)

(not that you asked for advice, but I felt your pain when I read your post and wanted to share my experience as a 'non-traditional' college student. I finished college at 34, and was so freaked out the first time I had to write a paper for a lit. class. I was sure I somehow got in to the class in error. I confessed my ignorance to my instructor, and she directed me to the campus writing center. There I learned to have confidence and follow procedure, and then I became a writing tutor. If you really bomb, beg to re-do the paper and head to the writing center with your assignment and paper. There you can find free help and gain some confidence...have fun!

The teacher pleaded a rough week, and let the class out early. He said he had graded half the papers and the lowest grade was a C. Surely I couldn't have made the lowest grade, so I'm feeling more optimistic. :)

format. Most teachers are looking for content and development of ideas. As long as you are thinking for yourself and showing that you are doing your own work, most other issues like format are easily addressed. Make sure you take advantage of office hours and talk with the teacher about how to come up to speed with today's technology driven students. Best Wishes on your grade. I'm sure you will do well.
