during our drive that I-5, north of Everett, seems to be turning into casino row. What's with that?!
It caused me to wonder how your work in that arena is going.
I was also reminded how beautiful your area is. I should get up there more often.

Funny. I just brought that up to her today. Saw her picture on O.V. website and mentioned the only other picture I ever saw when she was in the paper fighting the casinos. She looks younger now.

It's not just I-5 north of Everett, though that area has been particularly hard hit. It's all up and down I-5 ~ and beyond, for that matter. I sincerely wish people would increase their awareness of this issue (the proliferation of casinos). Our current governor receives loads of pac money from the tribes and, via the recent Spokane compact, has made it easier than ever for them to operate even more casinos. The one I was fighting, up the road from here, is open now I'm sorry to say. The fact that the tribe blatantly ignored requirements as set forth by IGRA (the Indian Gaming Regulation Act) is of no consequence in this world of unseemingly, underhanded dealing. I could go on and on about this but I'll wait and tell you in person next time your in my neck of the woods.;)

Hmmm ... maybe teenages wouldn't hang out on the library computers if they also installed slot machines and maybe a videogame arcade.

:p

CA just passed a whole slew of propositions for MORE casinos here. It is disgusting to me. It is all about the money for the state. Forget about cutting anything - let's enlarge CA government! Yeah, that's the ticket! It is so sad to me. Obviously, I voted against them.

Sorry to hear you are burdened by them too.
Kate

Since you mentioned propositions and voting, you must be talking about non-tribal casinos. I'm not a fan of those, either, but my particular "beef" is with tribal businesses because I don't support the existence of a sovereign nation within our nation.

No, it was for Indian gaming. They were making a different deal with the state than they already had. It was quite convoluted, but we did have a say in it. Unfortunately not enough Californians agreed with me and they passed. It is all about the money unfortunately.

I don't support the idea of a sovereign nation w/in our own borders either. I find the whole concept mind-boggling.
